Coaches

In addition to group lessons, skaters may arrange private coaching with a club coach for 1:1 or semi private lessons with another skater of the same caliber. All Collingwood Skating Club coaches are NCCP Skate Canada certified. Each have their own coaching fee schedule, averaging $11- $12 per 15 minutes, and are paid directly.

Janet Collins

Janet Collins, Coach

Janet started skating at the age of 5 and has never looked back. With over 30 years of coaching experience, she is Level 2 Certified in Figure Skating (Singles, Dance and Pairs), Level 2 in Special Olympics, and trained and evaluated in Making Ethical Decisions.

Since her first coaching job in university, Janet has worked as a figure skating coach for Team Canada at the Special Olympics World Winter Games at Toronto (1997), Nagano (2005) and Boise 2009), twice as the Head Coach. She has also worked as a figure skating coach for Team Ontario at the Special Olympics National Winter Games in Saskatoon (1992), Calgary (1996), Ottawa (2000), PEI (2004), and Quebec City (2008), four times as the Head Coach. Janet has also spent more than 10 years as the Provincial Figure Skating Technical Advisor for Special Olympics Ontario.

In 2010, Janet was the recipient of a Certificate of Appreciation from the Government of Ontario and the Coaches Association of Ontario. In 2009, she was awarded the Petro Canada Coaching Excellence Award from Coaching Association of Canada, and voted Female Coach of the Year by Special Olympics Ontario. In 1997, she also received the Gold Coach Award from Skate Canada, COS.

Diane Hall-Colley

Diane Hall-Colley, Coach

For the past 25 years, Diane has enjoyed coaching skaters of all ages, from the basic fundamentals to the advanced levels of Skate Canada’s Star Skate program.

Diane served as the Coach Liaison for the Collingwood Skating Club for 10 years, as well as a member of the COS Coaches Committee where she held the positions of Secretary and Coach Liaison on the Judges' Committee.

At the amateur level, Diane proudly represented the 1971 Canadian World Team, where she placed 5th at North Americans in Peterborough, ON and 16th at Worlds in Lyon, France. In Diane’s words, “Skating brings out my inner child that reminds me to coach with words of encouragement and respect.”

Christine Howell

Christine Howell, Coach

Christine has almost 20 years of coaching experience. She is currently a Level 2 Certified and Level 3 Theory and Technical Coach, and has her Triple Gold Tests. Christine has an Honors Diploma in Coaching Technique and Sports Science from Seneca College.

Once described as an up-and-coming skater by the Quebec Figure Skating Federation, Christine was a competitive skater from any early age. She competed and placed at a provincial level in Quebec/Ontario & Northern United States at Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, Pre-Novice, and Novice levels. Christine also trained under National, World and Olympic coaches including Josee Picard, Eric Gilles, Raymonde Corbo, and John Thomas.

In 1994, Christine was named to the Skate Canada's Honour Roll for "Outstanding Achievement" by the Province of Quebec. Today, she lives in Wasaga Beach with her husband and daughter.

Jan Hulme

Jan Hulme, Coach

Jan Hulme has over 25 years of coaching experience. She is Level 2 Certified, Level 2 Synchronized, Level 1 Special Needs and Level 3 Technical and Theory.

Jan has spent 15 years as the co-coordinator of the former Blue Mountain Skating School out of Collingwood. She has been the Coach Liaison for Collingwood and Stayner Figure Skating Clubs for the past 15 years. Jan also filled the position of Coach Liaison for the COS Coaches Committee for two years.

Jan is now thrilled to have opened her own skating school, Sk8 Georgian Bay. Her vision: to skate and be free with a dream.
